Understanding Abortion - A Grave Human Rights Abuse

American lives lost to abortion since 1973*

Abortion is the gravest mass human rights abuse of our time. Learn why this is a human rights issue.
When Life Begins
At the moment of fertilization, the entire genetic makeup of a unique human being is formed – this includes sex, eye color, and other traits. The difference between someone at fertilization, four months in utero, two years old, 17, 35, and 80 is development, aided by nutrition and time.
The Vulnerable Preborn
Throughout our lives, we are constantly changing — and we get to witness a lot of these changes in ourselves and others. But our most rapid developmental milestones take place when we are still hidden from the world in our mother’s womb.

And because preborn children are unseen during this crucial period, they are especially vulnerable. Most people do not know what happens to a preborn child during an abortion.

Learn more about prenatal development and the most prevalent abortion procedures used during each of the three trimesters.

Common Questions
Science proves that we are human from the moment of fertilization, but some people wonder if there are still reasons that justify abortion.

“What about rape/incest, life of the mother, or a challenging prenatal diagnosis?”

“How about when a woman’s rights and a preborn child’s rights seem to conflict?”

“If abortion were no longer legal, wouldn’t women just get unsafe, illegal abortions?”

The Abortion Corporation

One preborn child dies at Planned Parenthood every 97 seconds.

Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion chain, ending the lives of over 320,000 American children every year.

This corporation receives over half a billion dollars in taxpayer money every year. To justify this funding, Planned Parenthood downplays abortion — falsely claiming that it only makes up three percent of its business — and claims its priority is “women’s health care.”

However, Planned Parenthood’s own numbers prove its focus is abortion, not women’s health. Planned Parenthood doesn’t perform a single mammogram, and it performs less than two percent of all women’s cancer screenings in the United States, yet it commits over 30 percent of America’s abortions.

With its powerhouse lobby in Washington D.C., Planned Parenthood opposes all restrictions on abortion — including protections that the vast majority of Americans support, such as banning late-term abortions of children who could survive outside of the womb or abortions that are based on the preborn child’s sex. It also lobbies against laws that prohibit Americans’ tax money from paying for abortions.

Lies. Cover-up. Abuse.
While Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry commit one million abortions in the United States every year, they have also been exposed for other serious abuses against women and children.

Live Action has investigated Planned Parenthood’s cover-up of child sexual abuse and sex-trafficking, medical misinformation, lies and manipulation, infanticide, acceptance of racially-motivated donations, and willingness to target preborn girls for sex-selective abortions.
